Continue your road trip and head to Kalamazoo, a paradise for craft beer enthusiasts. Known for its famous Bell’s Brewery, the city also boasts the impressive Gilmore Car Museum and a vibrant downtown walking mall filled with local boutiques. Finally you make your way to Lansing, the state capital. Here, you can tour the majestic 1879 State Capitol building, stroll along the scenic Grand River on the Lansing River Trail, and explore the hands-on Impression 5 Science Center.

Days 1 & 2

Detroit, MI 

Welcome to Michigan! Start your journey in Detroit by enjoying the city’s rich automotive and industrial heritage at the Detroit institute of Arts, most famous for its world-class art collection and he “Detroit Industry Murals” by Diego Rivera. Then head over to The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, where its standout strength is storytelling of American invention and transportation. Visitors can see iconic artifacts such as the Rosa Parks Bus and early presidential limousines. Then head to the vibrant riverfront for scenic walks along the Detroit Riverwalk with views across to Canada, and enjoy spending time in cafés, local restaurants and cultural landmarks. 

The Motown Museum is a must-visit for music lovers, as it preserves the original recording studio where Motown Records created its legendary “Motown Sound.” The museum tells the story of how Berry Gordy built Motown into a cultural movement that changed popular music worldwide and helped define the sound of the 1960s and beyond.

Day 3 & 4

This morning, pick your rental car up and head west along an easy and scenic drive to Ann Arbor.

Its compact downtown makes it easy to explore on foot, with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that feels both authentic and distinctly local.

Visitors can also enjoy the buzz of American college life through sporting events, especially at the University of Michigan, alongside a mix of museums, galleries, and scenic riverside walks along the Huron River. It offers a well-rounded stop that blends culture, nature, and that classic collegiate American experience in a way that feels engaging and memorable.

Ann Arbor, MI – Kalamazoo, MI (100 Miles)

Kalamazoo is a relaxed and creative city in the southwest of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, that offers visitors a welcoming mix of culture, craft beer and small-city charm, making it an easy stop for travellers.

Enjoy exploring downtown with its independent cafés, local shops and galleries, then visit the Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Museum for interactive exhibits and historic aircraft, for people who require a slower paced day start with a walk or cycle along the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail, or spend time in nearby parks and lakes for a taste of Michigan’s natural landscapes. You can also visit the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts for a compact but impressive collection, before rounding off your stay with dinner in the walkable downtown area.

Day 6 & 7

Kalamazoo, MI – Lansing, MI. (75 Miles)

Lansing is Michigan’s capital, combing history, culture and riverside relaxation in an easy, compact layout.

Start your visit at the Michigan State Capitol, where visitors can take a guided tour inside the beautifully restored 19th-century building to see its ornate dome, historic chambers, and detailed architecture, while learning about how Michigan’s government operates. You can also explore the House and Senate chambers, admire the decorative interiors, and get a real sense of the state’s history in a setting that feels both grand and accessible.

The Michigan History Center is a great stop for understanding the story of Michigan in a engaging, hands-on way, making it much more than a traditional museum. It features interactive exhibits that take you from the state’s Native American history and early settlements through to the automotive boom and modern industry, helping visitors see how Michigan became what it is today.

One of its standout features is the “Michigan Time Traveller” gallery, which lets you explore different eras through immersive displays and artifacts, before enjoying one of Lansing’s many restaurants or cafés.
