EXPLORE THE OREGON DESTINATIONS YOU WILL BE VISITING...
Oregon’s roads showcase the state’s grandeur. The ability to access Oregon’s diverse natural beauty, as well as historical and cultural sites, has earned it 29 designated Scenic Byways and Tour Routes. On some byways, you’ll drive from the high desert to snowcapped peaks to verdant valleys in one go. You’ll experience the breath-taking views of Hells Canyon, Crater Lake, the Columbia River Gorge and Pacific coastline.
Road-tripping in Oregon means more than just driving from point A to B — it’s about pulling over for a fresh-caught seafood lunch on the coast, watching windsurfers at Hood River, stargazing under some of the darkest skies in the country, and meeting the locals who make these routes special.
Portland
Portland has many nicknames: Rose City, Beervana and Bridgetown, to name a few.
Like its monikers, Portland is pretty unique. It has world-renowned chefs and hundreds of food carts; art in theatres and outside on the street; the world’s largest independent bookstore and highest concentration of craft breweries; a huge urban forest; and a bridge reserved for bicyclists. This isn’t your typical city. If Portland wasn’t so different, it wouldn’t be Portland.
An extraordinarily unconventional city - A vibrant city with a dynamic blend of attractions and a tight-knit culture, Portland shines as a unique gem of Oregon. You'll find year-round entertainment in this always-evolving locale that's home to a mindful community dedicated to keeping its city sustainable, innovative and accessible. Between convenient public transit options and enticing tax-free shopping, you’ll find it easy to explore everything Portland has to offer.
Superb Shopping - Portland’s maker culture shines in its locally owned shops and boutiques. Pick up a made-in-Portland souvenir, then pop into thrift stores and vintage shops in search of eclectic second hand treasures. Several iconic U.S. brands are based here, like Nike, Columbia Sportswear, Pendleton and Danner, making it easy to spruce up your style. Best of all, you’ll pay no sales tax on your purchase: Portland is truly a shopping paradise.
Fabulous Food and Drink - An innovative dining scene has put the city at the epicenter of plenty of food trends and culinary movements. Explore Distillery Row on the Eastside, where numerous microdistilleries create small-batch spirits that incorporate distinct local flavours and ingredients. When it’s time for a meal, grab a bite at one of the city’s many food cart pods or award-winning restaurants. Dive into the area's food landscape even further with a trip to the Portland Farmers Market, held every Saturday at the downtown campus of Portland State University.
Picturesque Parks and Gardens - Even in the city, you’ll find green spaces galore. Head to Washington Park, a nearly 170-hectare oasis, to explore the historic International Rose Test Garden. This experimental garden is the oldest of its kind in the USA. Don’t miss a visit to the Portland Japanese Garden, where five distinct varieties of gardens offer serene scenery for a stroll. Nearby at Forest Park, hike or bike an extensive network of pathways that includes Wildwood Trail, the USA’s longest forested urban trail.
Amazing Arts and Culture - Embrace the unconventional in Portland, where diverse influences combine to create a welcoming, dynamic culture. The city’s many live music venues are a great place to start experiencing that local colour: Pop into bars, theatres and auditoriums any night of the week to hear emerging artists and established acts thrill audiences. Immerse yourself in contemporary and traditional works at the Portland Art Museum, then discover the city’s multi-faceted past in cultural museums like the Portland Chinatown Museum and the Oregon Jewish Museum and Centre for Holocaust Education.
Hood River /Mt Hood
It’s the go-to destination for foodies, trekkers, historians and adrenaline junkies. Called the windsurfing capital of the world, Hood River is located at the panoramic crossroads of the Columbia River Gorge and the Cascade Range. It’s chock-full of scenic hiking and mountain biking trails, craft breweries, wineries and farm-to-table bounty.
Mt. Hood and the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area provide some of the most stunning vistas on Earth. Whether you’re looking up the Columbia from Vista House or Rowena Crest, taking in Mt. Hood from Timberline Lodge or gliding past old-growth Douglas firs on the Sandy or Clackamas rivers, your eyes will never stop feasting.
Join Olympic hopefuls on the slopes for North America’s longest ski season at historic Timberline Lodge and Ski Area. Come summertime, kids young and old will enjoy the Mt. Hood Adventure Park at Skibowl. And golfers are sure to love The Resort at The Mountain’s beautiful 27-hole course. Trek out on a guided snowmobile tour or summertime alpine lake kayaking trip. Hike in the wheel ruts of Oregon Trail pioneers on historic Barlow Road and experience pioneer life at Philip Foster Farm. Adrenaline lovers are sure to enjoy rafting the Upper Clackamas River, the closest white-water to Portland, or speeding down the Sandy Ridge Trail System, home to world-class mountain biking.
Visit The Dalles, a slice of the Wild West and gateway to Oregon’s high desert country. Once an important gathering area for Native American tribes and later for Oregon Trail pioneers, it now attracts visitors with its sunshine – 300-plus days a year. Long known for its bountiful sweet cherry harvest, The Dalles is a hub for cyclists, hikers, rafters, anglers, history buffs and wine aficionados. Make sure to bike the Riverfront Trail for a visit to the Columbia Gorge Discovery Centre and wine tasting at the Sunshine Mill. You can’t spend a day touring Mt. Hood and the Columbia River Gorge and claim to know the area, but give it a week, and you’ll get a month’s worth of adventure!
Central Oregon
From the sagebrush-covered plains of the high desert to the towering pines and majestic mountain peaks, discover the diverse landscape Central Oregon has to offer.
Find your centre in this region along the powdered slopes of a volcano, down rivers that sparkle with fish, at the summit of sky-high mountains, on world-renowned golf courses and over scenic bikeways. Local experts will happily show you the way. Taste the accomplishments of craft connoisseurs on a beer trail or après-ski. Hide away in a cosy cabin and make fresh snow tracks in the forest. Around every corner in Central Oregon, a new adventure awaits.
The mighty Deschutes River runs through the heart of Bend — and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
After all, the city built Oregon’s first urban white-water park on that river. With miles of hiking and biking trails through town and Mt. Bachelor and Smith Rock nearby, Bend is famous for world-class recreation. Combine that with a richly diverse cultural landscape, award-winning dining and boutique shopping, and you might not want to leave Bend.
Sisters - named for the trio of towering peaks to its west, Sisters is a vibrant, artsy community with a charming 1880s facades and small-town ambience. Fun stays here year-round, with camping and fishing nearby at Suttle Lake and 800 acres of family-friendly ski terrain at Hoodoo Ski Area. In the summer, it’s all about the annual Sisters Rodeo. But you don’t need a season to taste all of the restaurants’ savoury flavours.
Southern Oregon
Discover a region where the past is honoured with new riches, like wine and food trails, world-famous theatres and galleries, Wild and Scenic Rivers and colourful landscapes that look like they were painted. Come fall and winter, the treasure trove might include snowshoeing around America’s deepest lake, fishing for trout and steelhead, mountain biking epic forest trails or witnessing a surreal festival of lights. In Southern Oregon, there’s an adventure everywhere you turn.
From high atop the rim of Crater Lake, you can see what a wonder the world really is.
A hike down to the water reveals new wonders. The water is so blue, so deep, it’s no surprise it’s the deepest lake in America, and one of the deepest on earth. That’s why it’s one of the 7 Wonders of Oregon.
Surrounded by cliffs almost 2,000 feet high and boasting a picturesque island a violent volcanic past, Crater Lake is also home to hikes in old-growth forest and cross-country ski trips in the winter months. Many of the roads and facilities close during the winter, but the park is open and accessible all year long. With a depth of 1,949 feet (594 m), the lake is the deepest in the United States.
Crater Lake is located in Southern Oregon, which is also home to the world-renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the stunning Rogue River, the Oregon Caves and vineyards, chocolatiers and cheesemakers galore.
Coastal Oregon
It doesn’t get much more coastal than this region. And thanks to a pioneering beach bill, all 363 miles of Oregon’s coastline remain free and public. That means endless opportunities to comb for agates or glass floats, catch your own Dungeness crab or razor clam, watch for whales, seals and puffins, make footprints in the sand or simply be captivated by a winter storm from inside a cosy beachfront lodge. No matter the season, the Oregon Coast is a rejuvenating getaway.
If you were to sum up the Oregon Coast in just two words, they would certainly be “unparalleled beauty.” But you just as easily say “outdoor paradise,” “seafood heaven,” “family friendly” and “free beaches.” The entire length of the Oregon Coast – all 363 mile of it – offers free access to every sandy nook and rocky cranny of this picturesque shoreline. Oregonians don’t stay inside much. Hiking, biking, birdwatching, whale watching, storm watching and fishing happen year-round.
Willamette Valley
Explore a region whose farm-to-fork food scene is paired with a legacy of wine — and plenty of ways to build up an appetite.
The Willamette Valley is celebrated for its more than 700 wineries, yet Oregon Wine Country is home to so much more. Here, magical experiences cultivated by intentional hands dot our sweeping vistas and beg to be explored.
Life’s simple pleasures can be found in a valley where farms, vineyards and forests reign supreme. Hit trails through old-growth trees to surging waterfalls and epic vistas, or pedal down a scenic backcountry road through covered bridges. These communities are tight-knit and talented, so take your time admiring their creativity and you might meet the makers too. Whether you’re looking for city culture or idyllic countryside, the Willamette Valley is a happy escape.
